It protects your health
Breathing in fumes from gas or solid fuels can cause you serious damage. A clean flue lets dangerous fumes leave safely through the chimney.
It cuts the chance of a chimney fire
Having your chimney swept reduces the chances of chimney fires that can damage your chimney.
It saves your room from smoke damage
If the fumes can’t leave through your chimney they come into the room, which can damage the decoration around your fireplace.

The Chimney Sweep is John McGrath, based in Wivenhoe. With over 25 years’ experience sweeping chimneys and carrying out repairs and rebuilds, you can count on us to take care of your chimney.
We are trained and registered with the National Association of Chimney Sweeps, so rest assured you are in more than capable hands. Our years of experience working with chimneys mean there are very few chimney related issues we have not faced.
We are proud to serve Colchester and a 30 mile radius of the area. We are flexible to your schedule and offer weekend appointments, and every sweep comes with a certificate.

Had two log burners that needed sweeping for Xmas and although fully booked up John helped me out getting these done. Really friendly and helpful service, he even showed me how to clean the glass on the log burners without buying any fancy cleaners. Very professional job with certificates for both. Would definitely recommend and will certainly be using him again.
I have recently bought a house with a log burner and wanted to ensure the chimney was swept before the colder nights draw in. I’m so glad I reached out to John - he arrived promptly and was 100% professional, helpful and friendly - not to mention very reasonably priced. We came across John when he was sweeping my Dad's chimney. We have had issues finding someone to sweep and service our wood burner due to it's installation by previous occupants. After discussions of what we needed, John was booked and two weeks later a thorough sweep was completed with certificate. He took the doors away to repair and returned a week later to provide a service and replace the bricks. Absolutely delighted with the results and would thoroughly recommend John. I picked up The Chimney Sweep's business card at the Brightlingsea Regatta weekend, which was perfect as I had been looking for a chimney sweep for the woodburner in the house I've recently moved to. John was also at the regatta so I was introduced to him and he promised to arrange a time to come round. He's friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable and gave me lots of useful information on woodburner use and maintenance. He was prompt and thorough on the day of the sweep and did a careful check over of the woodburner too.
